And there off … not quite yet, but this Sunday the hydroplanes, a high flying airshow and Seafair are back in action and that means … Boating Under the Influence emphasis patrols … yikes. Commencing Friday and ending late Sunday law enforcement will be patrolling our Lake Washington waterways looking for impaired boaters. Last year officers made 61 BUI arrests. This year, unlike last year, anyone convicted of BUI will be facing a gross misdemeanor, which means the possibility of 364 days in jail and a $5,000 fine. As noted in our last blog, Washington’s new BUI law went into effect this past Sunday.
In other news, a West Seattle man is being held on $1 million bail while awaiting possible charges for Vehicular Homicide for a fatal incident that occurred this past Saturday. The man allegedly was involved in an accident in which his pick-up collided with another vehicle. The pick-up rolled over, ejecting and killing a passenger riding in the bed of the truck. The man has had multiple alcohol related incidents in the past, and was allegedly driving on a suspended license and in violation of an ignition interlock restriction.
